Visit the Lakes

The Forest Side is ideally situated in the centre of the Lake District, making it an ideal base from which to explore everything this magnificent National Park has to offer.

Towns and Villages

The pretty village of Grasmere is just a short stroll away and is home to popular attractions such as Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, Grasmere Theatre and the now famous Sarah Nelson's Grasmere Gingerbread Shop.

Grasmere Lake is open 7 days per week, between March and early November, for the hire of canoes and rowing boats.

The popular Grasmere Sport Games, which includes fell-racing, hound trailing and Cumberland and Westmoreland wrestling, have been held annually here since 1852. This year the event will be held on 22nd August 2010

Further afield are the bustling towns of Ambleside and Windermere, which have something for everyone, including the Beatrix Potter Museum, traditional lake cruises, quaint tearooms, specialist outdoor shops and cosy inns.
